It has been almost three months since a nighttime fire damaged several businesses and the U.S. Post Office branch in Bristol Township’s Croydon section. On Wednesday, Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick sent a letter to the postmaster general asking when the location would reopen.
Residents have wondered over the past weeks about the status of the location in the Croydon Shopping Center along Route 13 that suffered damage when the fire broke out on August 22 in the cockloft and front soffit of the laundromat that is between a pizzeria and the Post Office.

A LevittownNow.com reporter recently spotted plywood covering the door and remaining damage to the soffit of the location that served the 19021 zip code. Fitzpatrick’s office said they had reports the damage to the location was minor. In the months since the fire, the laundromat, the Post Office, and Sarappo’s Pizza, which operates a second Bensalem location, have remained close.
In the meantime, Croydon residents have been using a postal branch that is two miles away in Bensalem or the Bristol Borough location, which is a roughly four-mile drive.
“In the nearly three months that members of the community have waited, we have not received information on when, or even if, the post office will reopen. As I’m sure you can understand, the interruption of service, and the limited resources deployed by USPS to mitigate this interruption, have caused challenges to many of Croydon’s residents,” Fitzpatrick wrote in his letter.

“It is my hope that the United States Postal Service will immediately provide an update to my office, and the people of Croydon, on the status of repairs being made to the post office and when the post office will reopen, and full service will resume,” he added.
Post Office regional spokesperson Ray Daiutolo Sr. told this news organization that the “Facilities Services Office is working on our behalf with the property owner regarding the status of the repairs,” adding he expected to provide an update in the future.
