Dunkin’ Donuts will be rebranding their stores in the Levittown area and across the country starting in January.

At the company’s Global Franchisee Convention on Monday, Dunkin’ Donuts announced they will change their name to Dunkin’, a longtime nickname for the doughnut and coffee chain. The new name fits with the tagline “America Runs on Dunkin’.”

“By simplifying and modernizing our name, while still paying homage to our heritage, we have an opportunity to create an incredible new energy for Dunkin’, both in and outside our stores,” said Tony Weisman, chief marketing officer for the company. “We are bringing the iconic name Dunkin’ to the forefront in a bold way that brings to life how we refill optimism with each cup and bring fun, joy and delight to our customers each and every day.”

Dunkin’ Donuts has more than a dozen stores in the Levittown area and 12,600 across the world.

David Hoffmann, president and CEO of Dunkin’ Donuts in America, said the new Dunkin’ branding will help the company grow and modernize. Some of the features the company is exploring are on-the-go-ordering and new value offerings.

Despite dropping the item from their name, the company will continue to sell doughnuts and make the most popular varieties available every day. In total, the company sold 2.9 billion doughnuts and Munchkins globally last year.

Dunkin’ Donuts started in 1948 with an eatery and coffee shop called Open Kettle in Quincy, Massachusetts. In 1950, Open Kettle was renamed Dunkin’ Donuts and began expanding through franchises in 1955.
