Middletown Looks To Replace Neighborhood Signs

Bristol Township’s updated section signs have spurred Middletown to look at their neighborhood identifiers.

Middletown is eyeing a plan to replace the township’s roughly 110 signs that mark its various neighborhoods.

Summer intern Nick Valla of Villanova University put together a plan that was presented to the Board of Supervisors this month.

The three-phased project is only in its infancy, but Valla has outlined that public input is needed along with a unique design.

Currently, Middletown has various styles and designs outside neighborhoods through the township. Just in Levittown, there are at least three different designs, including metal signs and a number of stylish donated markers that were supported by local businesses.

Valla said the current signs feature a mix of county, township, and Levittown seals.

The three-phase project outlined by Valla would include replacement of 46 signs in the Levittown section, 32 in the Langhorne section, and an evaluation of signs in neighborhoods where the developer installed markers.

The township will look at the possibility of adding solar lighting to new signs, Valla said.

Middletown will also talk with Falls Township and Tullytown about the sign designs and looks.

Township Manager Stephanie Teoli Kuhls said Middletown is looking for some help from area history buffs who know more about the different Middletown seals and one that was specifically for Levittown.

No requests for bids have been put out yet by the township.

While the Public Works Department can and has made metal section signs, the township is looking at more unique designs that would provide a uniform look.
