While Hurricane Irma is bearing down on the Caribbean and Florida, the local branch of the National Weather Service has released a statement on the potential impact the storm could have for our region.
The Philadelphia region is still several days away from any serious effects, aside from strengthened rip currents that will continue into next week down the shore, according to the regional branch of the National Weather Service.

A period of rain from the story is expected to hit the region, most likely around Wednesday. The threat of rain is too far away to be measurable, but forecasters are not expecting widespread flooding as of now. They also said hazardous winds in the region are unlikely.
Forecasters also noted that we are still in the peak of the Atlantic Basin hurricane season and urged anyone who might be in the path of a storm to heed the advice of their local officials and review their hurricane plans.
