Thomas Delaney, Bristol Township School District Special Education Life Skills teacher, was recently selected as head coach of Pennsylvania Track & Field Team that will compete in the 2018 Special Olympics.

Delaney, Assistant Coach Taryn Mockus and seven athletes representing the state, will travel to Seattle, Washington, July 1-6, 2018, and join 3,000 Special Olympic athletes, 1,000 coaches and more than 70,000 family members, volunteers and spectators to take part in the national competition.
Delaney has been involved in the Special Olympics at the local, state and national level for more than 32 years. He began volunteering while in high school and through the years has coached Track & Field, Swimming, and Long Distance Running & Walking. He is a capable and effective coach who has worked hard to build strong relationships with the athletes and their families. He has also worked tirelessly to raise awareness about Special Olympics.
According to Delaney, “The athletes I work with and their families are like my family. I encourage the athletes to keep their own data on their performance and to set personal goals for the future. I also strive to get their families involved in the process.”

Delaney will be responsible for working with the athletes, their families and local coaches before, during and following the games.
The 2018 Special Olympics USA Games shines the spotlight on the achievements of athletes with disabilities and promotes awareness and acceptance.
