Levittown siblings were honored earlier this month for their work with an organization which provides basic essentials to children living in homeless or low-income situations.

The non-profit Cradles to Crayons recognized Carl Sandburg Middle School students Gyzell and Gavin Rowan on May 17 at the Philadelphia Giving Factory in West Conshohocken. The organization honored the Neshaminy School District student leaders for all the hard work they put forth. The Rowans were two of 19 students honored.

According to a release by the organization, after learning that childrenโ€™s shoes are a recurring low-inventory item at Cradles to Crayons, Gyzell and Gavin launched an Instagram campaign to collect gently-used shoes from their friends. Within a week, the two were able to collect 53 pairs of shoes to donate to children in need.

Cradles to Crayons launched in 2002 and has operations in Boston, Philadelphia, and Chicago. The nonprofit provides children from birth through age 12 living in homeless or low-income situations with the essential items they need to thriveโ€”at home, at school, and at play.
