A homeowner told police that awoke to find a burglar inside her Middletown home.
The homeowner called 9-1-1 Monday morning after being awakened by a noise while sleeping on the sofa of her Deer Drive home. She spotted a man inside the kitchen using a cellphone light to navigate and initially thought it was one of her children, according to court papers filed by police.

The woman told officers the man darted out of the house when she called out to find out who was in the kitchen, police said.
A pair of black Nike size 11 shoes were found in the house and did not belong to any of the residents, the homeowner told police.
An officer went outside the house and found a pillow case with a PlayStation 4, a tablet and two bottles of alcohol that belonged to the residents of the Deer Drive home, police said.

About 100 yards from the home, police found 21-year-old Deer Drive resident Brian Michael Toal hiding the bushes. He had no shoes on and ran into the woods when police found him, according to court papers.
Two police officers eventually arrested Toal hiding in the woods and arrested him after he refused to comply with him, authorities said.

A tablet was found in the area Toal ran to and was found to belong to another Deer Drive resident. The resident’s back door was found unlocked, police said.
Toal was charged with two counts of burglary and receiving stolen property and single counts of loitering and prowling at night, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned and sent to prison on 10 percent of 50,000 bail. According to court records, Toal bailed himself out of prison Tuesday.
