The community will get a chance to see the new Tawanka Elementary School next week.
Neshaminy School District spokesman Chris Stanley said a community open house will be held at the Tawanka school on Brownsville Road in Lower Southampton on Thursday, August 18 from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The public will be able to take a tour of the new building that will serve students from Langhorne, Langhorne Manor, Lower Southampton and Middletown.

The district is planning to stagger the times for tours to relieve any large influx of community members who want to see the school. However, officials said parents and community members are welcome at any time in the evening if it fits their schedule.
- Families of kindergartners – 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
- Families of first and second graders – 6:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.
- Families of third and fourth graders – 6:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.

A second community open house at Tawanka will take place from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 25.
The school and grounds are almost fully completed and expected to open in time for the first day of classes on August 31 for kindergarten and September 1 for the rest of the students.

The 900-student school began construction late last spring and cost the district around $30 million.
The opening of the school coincides with a redistricting due to the closure of Oliver Heckman Elementary School in Langhorne. The closure, along with that of Samuel Everitt Elementary School in Levittown, is part of a district-wide consolidation effort that is expected to save funds.
