The Bristol Township School Board will consider a policy governing use of Narcan, officially known as Naloxone, in it’s buildings.

At Tuesday evening’s school board agenda meeting, the board moved “Policy 823 Naloxone” onto their agenda for next week’s voting meeting.

As a means of enhancing the health and safety of its students, staff and visitors, the district may obtain, maintain and administer doses of an opioid antagonist and other facilities, specifically Naloxone, for emergency use to assist a student, staff member or other individual believed or suspected to be experiencing an opioid overdose.

Superintendent Dr. Melanie Gehrens said Narcan, a life-saving overdose antidote, would be provided in school buildings through a grant.

Local police officers and emergency medical personnel already carry Narcan and have saved dozens of lives since last year.
