Middletown’s Uptown String Band put on an entertaining performance at Philadelphia’s famed Mummers Parade on New Year’s Day.
The local string band, which recently moved their home to the hall at Parkland Fire Company, paid homage to firefighters, Parkland Fire Company’s station number (9) and the bingo night’s that used to be held at the fire station.

According to Mr. Mummer, Uptown String Band came in ninth place out of 17 string bands at the New Year’s Day parade that was aired locally on MyPHL17.
Musical Director Thor McLaughlin said earlier this week that preparations for 2017’s parade will start again right after the 2016 parade.

“It all starts on January 2,” McLaughlin told LevittownNow.com earlier in the week. “That’s when we recover from the day before. But honestly, it starts the Tuesday after New Year’s when we sit down and review footage and scores from the parade. The following Tuesday we immediately begin working on the next year’s theme.”
