Two of the men blamed for bringing on Middletown’s Earned Income Tax (EIT) two years ago were not reelected by the voters of Middletown Tuesday.

Democrats Amy Strouse and Tom Tosti were elected to fill the two open seats on the township Board of Supervisors that are currently held by Republicans Pat Mallon and Drew Kreiling.

The election of Strouse, wife of one-time Democratic Kevin Strouse, and Tosti marks a change for Middletown, which has been run by an all-Republican board for the past few years.

Residents said during public comment in 2013 that they would vote out the sitting supervisors if they voted in favor of an EIT. The issue was brought to light recently in signs from Strouse and Tosti that mentioned the tax increase.

Strouse and Tosti were out at Maple Point Middle School in the hours before the race meeting with voters in the community.

Mallon told the Bucks County Courier Times after his loss that he feels he “left Middletown in better shape than when I took office six years ago.”
