About 12 percent of the female population will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of their lifetime and nearly 2.8 million women alive today have some history with the disease, whether they are going through treatment now, or have in the past.

While much is done to benefit research and awareness for the invasive cancer, one breast cancer survivor is determined to raise money for the very men and women that are going through the treatment process.
On Sunday, October 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Dara Zuckernick, now a West Chester resident, will kickoff her 4th annual Bench For Boobs event at 50 Hulmeville Avenue in Penndel Borough. The event, an amateur bench press competition, is geared towards raising money during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Filipos Halikias, a former RN and owner of Legendary Athletics, a CrossFit gym, will serve as the event host, while James Klemick, a former champion power-lifter and owner of Coalition Nutrition, will serve as the event’s corporate sponsor. Both men operate their businesses out of one Penndel facility.

While the event was held in New Hope last year, and both Coalition Nutrition and Legendary Athletics took part, Zuckernick needed a new midway point for the event since moving to Chester County. It was a need that put 50 Hulmeville Avenue at the forefront for hosting the amazing charity event.
The men started the cohesive fitness and nutrition one-stop-shop two years ago when Halikias said he was disappointed in the advice and actions being taken by nurses he worked with and talked with his wife in cashing in their nest egg and doing something “totally crazy”. It wasn’t long after that dedicated lifter, Klemick, joined the team. He offered accountability and truth to a workout and supplement environment that acts more like a family.

It is Zuckernick’s hope that such positive reinforcement and good vibe culture of Halikias and Klemick’s businesses will help her raise more money than she ever has before.
“We have an awesome culture, just fitness in general, its a great idea to bring people together to raise money for a cause that’s not about actually making money like most events,” Klemick said.
He noted that while the event raised $2,000 last year, he hopes he’ll be able to cut a check for $5,000 this year. The group’s are lifting for a great cause and a great human being. Klemick noted that one of the members of the facility’s CrossFit family is currently battling a severe stage of the disease.

While registration for the event costs $30 per person, every cent goes to benefit Zuckernick’s organization, The Healing Consciousness Foundation (HCF). The organization, which has been dear to Zuckernick’s heart since she once battled breast cancer herself, helps supports men and women with breast cancer through both Eastern modalities and Western medicine.
Those who attend will also have access to vendors, tests of protein pancakes and amino jello, and the opportunity to purchase a pink Coalition Nutrition T-shirt. Funds raised from the T-shirts, which will retail for $15, will also 100 percent benefit HCF.

Klemick described the event as one ‘just for fun’ and that no skill level should be discouraged from coming out and helping to raise money for Zuckernick’s cause. He described the event as non-sanctioned, without a major celebrity, leaving costs low and donations high.
