The Neshaminy School District this week opened a 50-year-old time capsule buried in the walls of a soon-to-be-demolish school.

The capsule inside the cornerstone of the old Tawanka Elementary School on Brownsville Road in Lower Southampton was removed and opened by workers preparing for the building’s demolition.

On a social media post, the district said the lead box was placed in the corner stone on June 10, 1965, only a few months after the building had opened.

As Samuel Everitt Elementary School in Levittown closed and was turned over to the Bucks County Intermediate Unit in June, staff members said they were not able to locate the contents of that building’s original time capsule. The contents of that container were displayed several years ago and then lost.
