An afternoon blaze at a recovery home in Bristol Township’s Croydon section caused extensive damage Wednesday afternoon.
Firefighters were dispatched at 1:52 p.m. to the home in the 2100 block of Dixon Avenue for a reported blaze.
Crews arrived to the home to find heavy fire coming from the back of the dwelling and spreading to the roof, Croydon Fire Company Chief Tom Tryon said.

Firefighters had two 250-gallon propane tanks burning in the rear of the home by the deck. One tank burned through all its propane and the other was moved away from the home by crews, Tryon said.

“We hit the tanks with water and were able to disconnect them,” the chief said.
The fire was placed under control at 2:49 p.m.

The blaze started on the back deck outside, but the cause remains under investigation, Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said.
No residents were hurt in the blaze that sent smoke high into the sky above and blanketed surrounding streets. One firefighter suffered a slight burn to his hand, officials said.

Dippolito said seven men lived in the recovery home and two were home at the time of the blaze.
The owner of the recovery home made arrangements for all seven displaced residents to stay at other recovery facilities he owns, Dippolito said.

The American Red Cross is assisting the seven men with essential goods.
The blaze took place on the hottest day of 2026 so far, which made the battle against flames more difficult for crews.

In addition to the Croydon Fire Company and Bristol Township Fire Rescue, the Bensalem Volunteer, Bristol Consolidated, Edgely, Goodwill, Levittown No. 2, Newportville, Penndel, and Third District fire companies responded. The Bucks County Rescue Squad also responded.
