PECO will inspect more than 39,000ย local utility poles by spring, a feat that will cost the company an estimated $1.5 million.
The local effort across both Bucks County and Philadelphia is part of PECO’s mission to provide ongoing preventive maintenance.

According to PECO, these inspections include a visual examination of poles and the electrical equipment attached for decay. Any necessary repairs or replacements are then carried out.
Poles in Bristol Township, Falls Township, Middletown Township, Lower Makefield Township, Lower Southampton Township, Northampton Township, Hulmeville Borough, Langhorne Borough, Penndel Borough and Langhorne Manor will be inspected this year as part of the Bucks County initiative.
“Continuous inspection, repair and replacement of equipment on our electric system is critical to ensuring that other customers receive the safe and reliable service they expect,” said Vice President of Technical Services John McDonald. “Preventive maintenance programs help reduce the frequency and duration of outages, improve the performance of our entire system, keeping our customers and crews safe.”

PECO, in total maintains an estimated 390,000 poles across the region, each of which is expected every ten years. Inspection, replacement and repair work on the poles is all done in accordance with the National Electric Safety Code.
In total, PECO spends a total of $500 million each year to enhance the company’s electric system.
