Cops: Homeless Man Stole Car, Then Returned It


A homeless man was arrested Monday after he stole a vehicle and then returned it.

A resident handling laundry in the backyard of her Viking Lane residence Sunday afternoon heard a vehicle being started outside of her home The woman ran to the front yard and watched a man drive off in her vehicle, according to court papers.

Falls Township Police were called to the scene and alerted to the theft.

At 11:45 p.m. Sunday, the resident called police again and said the vehicle was back in front of her house, court papers say.

Officers responded to the house and captured suspect Cory Hoffman, 35, nearby, according to court papers.

Falls Police said Hoffman was “attempting to avoid police” and hid in bushes outside a Vermillion Lane home.

The owner of the vehicle said she did not know the man and did not give him permission to operate the vehicle.

Hoffman was charged with theft and loitering. He was arraigned and sent to Bucks County Prison on 10 percent of $50,000 bail.
