Substitute Teacher Pleads Guilty to Charges, Gets Probation

Substitute teacher Kathryn Boyce pleaded guilty t0 charges Monday in Doylestown related to her arrest at Bristol Borough’s Snyder-Girotti Elementary School.

Boyce, 34,ย  entered an open guilty plea on charges of theft, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia on Monday, according to Bucks County Assistant District Attorney David Keightly. Boyce was sentence to two years of probation for the three offenses she was accused of. She is to have no contact with any of the victims according to the open guilty plea, Keightly told LevittownNow.com on Monday.

Keightly said Boyce, who has a bachelor and masters degree, had completed 25 days of inpatient treatment for substance abuse prior to her sentencing on Monday.

At the time of Boyce’s arrest early this year, she was charged with theft, possession of drug paraphernalia ย and related offenses. The drug possession charge was added in April after the crime scene lab reported a positive result for a substance she had with her at the school – heroin- when Boyce was originally detained.

LevittownNow.comย first broke the story of the now former substitute teacher onย January 30. She was observed by fifth-grade students rummaging through bookbags and the purse of a school support staff member, according to court documents.

Students told the support staff member what they observed, authorities said. The staff member then reported the information to school and district officials, court records show.

Police noted in court papers that Boyce had ย โ€œtrack marksโ€ on her wrist they observed when interviewing her on January 30.

Boyce told police sheย was involved in an accident where she broke her tail bone and required pain medication that she became addicted too and when she ran out off her prescription she started using heroin, court records show. She reportedly told police the marks on her wrist were from shooting heroin.

At a preliminary hearing on March 26 in Bristol Borough District Court, Boyce waived her right to a hearing on the theft and receiving charges, according to court records.

Boyce’s attorney said at the March hearing his client would be applying for the ARD program, police sources said.

Boyce reportedly worked the day after she was charged in theย Bristol Township School District.
