Five medals earned more than 70 years ago by a local World War II veteran were finally received yesterday by his family in Bensalem.
Raymond Kelly, served in the United States Navy during World War II from October of 1943 to May of 1944 where he earned the Navy Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal & Four Bronze Star Appurtenances, and the European-Africa-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.

Kelly’s daughter, Mae Schlosser, was presented with the medals by Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8) yesterday, along with a congressional certificate and an American flag which had been flown over the Capitol Building, all in honor of her late father.
“I really appreciate Congressman Fitzpatrick’s help, it’s a thrill,” said Schlosser. “The items from today will be passed down for generations; the flag to one daughter and the medals to the other.”
While serving his country Kelly found himself in action-filled areas such as Arawe, Cape Gloucester, Finschafen, Talasea, Saidor, Aitape, Hollandia, and the Schouten Islands.

“Americans from each generation have put their lives on the line in the name of freedom and the service of others. That service and sacrifice deserves to be recognized – including that of Mr. Kelly,” said Fitzpatrick. “I’m grateful to have the opportunity today to right a wrong and award these medals to Mr.Kelly’s daughter. Each veteran deserves the support and acknowledgement of a grateful nation.”
