The Bristol Township Council authorized about nine more miles of roadway to be paved at last week’s meeting.
Forty-nine additional roads will be added to the in-progress paving program in which a change order was agreed upon with James D. Morrissey Inc. of Philadelphia at a cost of $1.2 million dollars. The amount brings the total township road investment for the year to $3.5 million.

The number of township roads being paved will hit the 25 mile mark with the additional work. In total, 85 roads in the town will be paved, officials said.
The most recent incarnation of the project and the townships commitment to rebuilding the infrastructure of Bristol got underway early in June with workers from Morrissey taking to the streets.
Township Manager Bill McCauley sounding prophetic said this is where he “projected to be” with the paving project in the township.

“We will have completed 68 miles in three years and that will leave us 20 miles for the fourth and fifth year. We will be considering borrowing some more money to get moving into the next phase of the program probably early next year.”
James D. Morrissey is now given a 30-day extension on top of its original 90-day berth to complete the project, officials said.

Morrissey was originally awarded the contract to complete the first phase, financed by a $4 million loan from the Delaware Valley Regional Finance Authority and the township’s liquid fuels fund.
The township should also find out soon about a grant they applied for to fund the Croydon Streetscape project which will also include the paving and milling of streets in and around the SEPTA Croydon Regional Rail Station.
