UPDATE: Lightning Blamed for Orangewood Apartments Fire

The American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania said they are helping nine people displaced by the fire. The Red Paw Relief Team reported they are assisting with two cats displaced by the blaze.

First responders were called out  in the middle of a thunderstorm for a fire at the Orangewood Apartment complex in Bristol Township’s Levittown section Wednesday night.

Witnesses on the scene reported the fire ripping through the complex as cadre of fire trucks arrived on scene around 8:30 p.m.

The fire, which could be seen searing the roof over the entrance to one of the buildings, lit up the night sky as responders pelted it with water.

Residents in the surrounding area shared on the LevittownNow Facebook page hearing a loud and thunderous “boom” prior to the fire. Some also reported that a lighting strike hit the building, although that has yet to be confirmed by any fire officials on the scene.

Bristol Township Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said residents from four units of the complex were displaced and the American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania was responding.

The investigation into the cause of the blaze will begin later Wednesday night after the residents are taken care of, the fire marshal told LevittownNow.com.

The damage to the apartment building looks to be contained to the roof.

Medics were called to the scene but early reports do not indicate any life-threatening injuries.
