Lightning Blamed for Orangewood Apartments Fire


A lightning strike cause the fire that damaged an apartment building in Bristol Township, according to a fire official.

Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito made the determination Thursday morning after investigating the cause of the Wednesday night blaze at the Orangewood Apartments off Mill Creek Road in Levittown.

No injuries were reported in the fire, but Dippolito said four units were damaged by the fire.

Workers patched up the roof of the damaged units and worked to cover portions of the building with tarp Thursday around noon.

The blaze started shortly after the strike around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday as thunderstorms moved through the area. Firefighters from multiple companies raced to the scene and quickly put down the flames.

Residents in the surrounding area shared on the LevittownNow Facebook’s page that they heard a loud and thunderous “boom” prior to the fire.

The American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania said Thursday morning they helped nine people displaced by the fire. The Red Paw Relief Team reported they assisted with two cats displaced by the blaze.

Lightning also struck a building in Langhorne Borough and required fire crews to respond. A house fire in Bensalem is also blamed on lightning from the storm.
