A church official entered the building around 6:30 a.m. on February 11 and discovered office doors and cabinets had been pried open. While checking the rest of the church, $350 cash and a flat-screen TV were discovered stolen, police said.
Police obtained surveillance video of the burglary from the church, according to court papers. Detective Patrick Nicastro wrote in an affidavit that the video showed Smith walking down a hallway with a flashlight and looking directly up at the camera. At that point, the detective wrote he recognized Smith from previous contacts.
The damage to the church was $750, police said.
