The “…plant closing news is incredibly disappointing.ย I feel deeply for the hundreds of families whose outlook has become uncertain and I intend to do whatever I can to help these families chart their future.ย The highly-skilled workers at the Newtown facility are focused on the cutting-edge technology our nation needs to stay a global leader.ย They work hard and they work smart; they are a tremendous asset to any employer and they can count on me to be a relentless promoter of their skills and for our region,” Fitzpatrick said.

Santarsieroย called on public officials to save the ย installation saying the decision ย close down theย ย Newtown facility “will have a ripple effect through our neighborhoods” ย calling on leaders ย at ย the local, state and federal level to begin working together immediately to explore any possibilities of reversing companies decision.
Santiserio also added that if that plan didn’t work he would help support a transition for the families impacted while also securing a replacement industry to sustain the local economy.

I have been directly in touch with representatives from Lockheed Martin and many workers.ย I am told that subcontractors to the GPS III program are not expected to be impacted and current contracts will be honored.ย Furthermore, I have been in communication with officials from the Federal, State and Local levels, Fitzpatrick also said.
Lockheed Martin, which made $47 billion in sales in 2012, is also closing buildings in Akron, Ohio, Goodyear, AZ, and Horizon City, TX and at a California facility.
