Bristol Township police confirmed to LevittownNow.com late Tuesday afternoon that investigators have learned the attempted abduction of a 12-year-old boy in the Appletree section of Levittown last week were fabricated.
Lt. Guy Sava said the boy admitted to a detective that the story was made up at around 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Sava said police were still trying to find out what motivated the boy to make the claims. It is unclear whether the boy was inspired by social media posts, recent events or something else entirely.
As of Tuesday afternoon, police have not announced whether they will file any sort of charges against the boy, whose name LevittownNow.com is withholding.

A 12-year-old boy was walking home from baseball at around 4:30 p.m. Thursday when a man in a gray car approached and tried to abduct him. A good Samaritan punched the would-be abductor and the boy was able to run away.

The boy’s story quickly spread Thursday afternoon through social media. By Friday morning, dozens of residents had contacted LevittownNow.com about the posts and many more had shared the information on Facebook.
Sava said police ran into roadblocks Friday morning when they located the “good Samaritan” and he denied the entire incident. From there, the story began to fall apart.

Despite numerous reports on local television news, it was never believed by police that the Appletree incident was connected to an attempted abduction attempted on Friday that was reported by Morrisville Borough police, Sava said.
Reports of abduction attempts in Falls have also been unfounded, according to that township’s police department. Many social media posts indicated that attempts were made in Thornridge.
Bristol Township police have fielded several inquires about the incident from residents over the past few days.
