A Halloween display with fake hanging corpses along a busy Bristol Borough road has caused some controversy.

The display along Farragut Avenue went up recently and quickly shocked some.

A concerned person mentioned the display at a Bristol Borough Council meeting earlier this month.

The Bucks County chapter of the NAACP said the display, while part of free expression, can be hurtful.

“For Black Americans, the imagery of bodies hanging from trees is not simply a Halloween decoration. It evokes one of the darkest chapters in American history,” the group said.

The Bucks County NAACP added, “We recognize that Halloween decorations are often designed to frighten or shock. We are not suggesting that the homeowner necessarily intended to communicate a racially motivated message. However, intent does not erase impact, and historical context matters.”

6abc reported the homeowner told them the display was purchased online and the resident put up a scary graveyard scene, which includes the black bags that look like dead bodies hanging from the tree.
