Albert Schweitzer Elementary School in Middletown Township’s Levittown section was among three schools in the nation to win Software Association Foundation’s 2013 Education Challenge Grant.
The grant was given to the elementary school to help support use of computer and video technology to enhance classroom learning.

The grant money comes at a time where the Neshaminy School District is working to beef up science, technology, engineering and mathematics, also known as STEM, offerings across the school system.
“By leveraging the engaging and interactive nature of video games, this year’s Education Challenge Grant winners will cultivate richer learning environments that capture students’ interest and imagination,” said Jenny Lai, vice president of ESAF. “We are proud to support these schools as they prepare the next generation of leaders and innovators for success in today’s digitally advanced global economy.”
The money at Schweitzer will be used to help students with developmental disabilities. Using Microsoft’s Kinect for XBox, as well as SMARTTable and SMARTBoard technology, the school will work to help the students who need the extra help improve their reading, writing, math, communication, and social skills.
