At around 1 p.m., PECO workers spotted smoke coming from the roof of a home next to the gas leak, which was patched by that time, Dippolito said.
The cause of the smoke was determined to be burning insulation cause by a malfunctioning attic exhaust fan, the fire marshal said, adding that the gas leak was not connected smoke.
No injuries or major service disruptions were reported.
