Screech. BANG.

That’s what Bristol Township police Officer Paul Shalcross heard shortly before arresting Leah Donaldson, 28, of Morrisville, for receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, DUI, DUI with BAC of .16 or higher, trespass by motor vehicle and driving while operating privilege is suspended, according to court papers.

According to police, Shallcross was driving his patrol car last Tuesday at 12:35 a.m. near the Venice Ashby neighborhood when he heard the loud sounds and then spotted a blue Ford Explorer driving across the grass at the Community Center. Records indicate that her license was suspended at the time of the incident.

Shallcross turned on his car’s emergency lights and the SUV stopped in front of a building on Foster Avenue Circle, police said.

After the car stopped, Donaldson got out of the driver’s seat and starting walking toward the officer, court papers show. They add that she was staggering, had glassy eyes and smelled of alcoholic beverage.

Donaldson was seated in the back of Shallcross’ patrol car talking to the officer when she tried to walk away, police said. Donaldson asked why she had to stay, and Shallcross told her because she was under arrest for DUI, according to police.

Donaldson pulled away as the officer tried to grab then; forcing him to take her to the ground, police said. Court papers state Donaldson kept pulling her arms away and said she was not being arrested.

With the arrival of another officer, Donaldson was controlled and taken into custody, police said.

At the scene, a man told police the SUV was stolen by Donaldson, who he did not know.

The vehicle was examined by the owner, who determined it to be so badly damaged it could not be driven.

Police said the vehicle caused ruts in the grass at the community center.

Court records show Donaldson has had several run-ins with police across the lower end of the county.

Donaldson was arraigned before District Judge Joanne V. Kline and remanded to Bucks County Prison on 10 percent of $30,000 bail.
