The black bear spotted across Lower Bucks County in recent weeks may have been captured Thursday morning in New Jersey.

A New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife employee told 6abc that the bear captured in Delran, Burlington County could be the same male that visited Bensalem, Bristol Township, Hulmeville and Middletown in recent weeks before disappearing from the area.

In both cases the bears had tags on them identifying them, however, the bear in Bucks County was never close enough for officials to read the multi-colored tags. The bear in Delran did, and officials confirmed he had previously visited the area and was captured.

In Bucks County and New Jersey, the bear that was spotted to said to be between 350 and 400 pounds. The final weight for the Delran was 364 pounds.

According to Mooresville Patch, police were called to Delran shortly before 6 a.m. after the bear climbed a tree.

6abc.com reported the bear was released into Brendan Byrne State Forest in Shamong Township, which is in the heart of the vast Pine Barrens.

Black bear fever swept Lower Bucks County after the sightings began in mid-May in Middletown Township. Parody Twitter accounts and a parade mascot purporting to the bear appeared in recent weeks.

While it is possible the bear might have swamp across the Delaware River to Bucks County and then back to New Jersey, Pennslyvnaia officials have yet to comment if the New Jersey bear is the same one that was spotted in Lower Bucks County.
