A Goldenridge Drive house fire that left three people hurt Wednesday night was started by a malfunctioning lamp, officials said.

A lamp in a second-floor bedroom of the house started the blaze which caused heavy damage to the William Levitt-built home, Bristol Township Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said.

The elderly residents – a husband and wife – were taken to Aria Hospital in Falls Township for examination. The husband suffered burns to his forehead and singed hair, Dippolito said.

A volunteer firefighter was also treated at the scene by the Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad after he fell ill while on the second-floor of the house, Dippolito said. He added that the firefighter was able to exit the house under his own power.

The fire marshal said the lightning storm which was bearing down on Levittown at the time of the fire did not contribute to the blaze.
