A resident of Levittown’s Juniper Hill section in Middletown Township threw his hat in the ring on Thursday and announced he is running for a seat on the Neshaminy School Board.

Doug Suessegger says the five-year contract battle between the board and teacher’s union has “sullied Neshaminy’s reputation.” He added that he wants to put the district on the “right path again.”

“I am a registered Democrat, though this is a non partisan election,” Suessegger told LevittownNow.com.

Suessegger is running in the Lower Bucks Two ward against Republican Mike Morris, a current board member. Lower Bucks Two covers all of the Levittown homes in Neshaminy and a section of Langhorne.

Below is the news release announcing his candidacy:

Doug Suessegger today announced his candidacy for Neshaminy School Board, citing the need for Levittown to “elect a forward thinking, professional leader who will put in the time & effort necessary to prioritize education with foresight for the District’s long-term success.”

Suessegger, a Bill Gates Millennium Scholar and Magna Cum Laude graduate of Drew University, has more than ten years government experience, having worked for a NJ Governor, a US Congressman, several members of the NJ State Assembly, and Chief of Staff for the Mayor of Hamilton Township, NJ.  Suessegger has also volunteered for youth-based organizations such as Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America and has organized municipal-wide Toys-for-Tots drives.

Suessegger believes that this November election is particularly important to Levittown residents, citing the sharp decline in Pennsylvania System of School Assessment, (PSSA), scores over the past decade, reduced academic offerings, elimination of programs, proposals to close [up to] two Levittown elementary schools, and the overall effect on property values and taxes throughout the district.

Recognizing the District’s vulnerability after five years without a settled contract, Suessegger says that it is more important now than ever that Neshaminy residents choose their representatives carefully.

“Five years without a settled contract has jeopardized our children’s education, sullied Neshaminy’s reputation as a top-rate district, and will cost taxpayers millions in the long run. There is much work to be done to recover and set ourselves on the right path again.”

“With a sharp focus on providing top-rate educational development and long-term solutions to our current challenges, I will devote the time and energy to ask the tough questions, make the tough decisions, and put Neshaminy’s students and taxpayers first.”

Suessegger will be posting issues and policy statements on his website located at www.dougforneshaminy.com, along with his Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/dougforneshaminy. Suessegger asks residents to share their questions and comments directly.
