Amy Campanara of Levittown’s Indian Creek section told Bristol Township police she was rear-ended in a hit-and-run accident at Indian Creek Park and Emilie Road.

Problem is, when her insurance company investigated, they discovered it never happened.

Campanara, 34, reported that her black SUV was hit on Thursday, Feb. 7. She told police that by the time she checked if her child was uninjured, the mysterious black pick-up truck, possibly a Dodge Dakota, was leaving the scene, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

The responding patrolman used his radio to alert surrounding police departments to be on the lookout for the truck, police said.

During the accident investigation, police said they did not find the typical debris that would normally be at an accident scene.

Campanara filed out an accident report after the crash with authorities.

Roughly a month after the supposed crash, an investigator from Campanara’s insurance company contacted police to inform them the accident report was false.

Campanara told the insurance investigator her unlicensed son was driving the vehicle and backed into a pole located at Allied Building Products on Emilie Road, according to court documents. She told the investigator she filed the report to protect her son.

Police said Campanara was given several opportunities to turn herself into and did not.

She is being charged with insurance fraud and false reports to law enforcement.
