Levittown native Susan Barnett will no longer be the face that thousands see every evening when they turn on Eyewitness News on CBS 3 and CW 57.

Barnett, a graduate of Bristol Township’s Harry S. Truman High School, has opted not renew her contract with the stations.

“I am incredibly thankful for having been a part of the CBS Philly family, but I feel that this is the right decision at this time,” Barnett said in a statement released to Philly.com.

In recent weeks, Barnett has been off the air. According to postings on her Twitter account, she had been dealing with a bout of pneumonia.

“You have to travel all over the country and earn your stripes, especially when you come from a huge city like Philadelphia, it is hard to get here at all,” Barnett told the Philadelphia Business Journal in 2008. “Making it to this level is really the ultimate for me.”

Barnett’s colleagues wrote their farewells on Facebook Monday.

“I hope that after departing Eyewitness News that her life is filled with much laughter and love,” consumer reporter Jim Donovan wrote.

Here’s what her co-anchor Chris May posted:

Susan Barnett is the first person I met in Philadelphia. We’ve been partners for five years — and best friends. And that’s why it’s so hard to let you know that Susan has made the very difficult and personal decision to leave CBS3. Suffice it to say, I’ll miss working with my friend.

The station has not announced a replacement for Barnett, who hosted the evening newscasts at 5, 6, 10 and 11.
