Bristol’s Crossing Guards To Get Raise To $30 Per Shift

As classes resume, Bristol Borough’s hardworking crossing guards are getting a pay raise.

Bristol Borough Council voted at its Monday evening public meeting to increase crossing guard pay to $30 per shift, bringing daily earnings to $60.

The decision comes after a previous pay increase in 2022 where the rate went from $12 per hour to $15 per hour.

Council President Ralph DiGuiseppe said officials hope the higher wage will attract more candidates.

“We raised this and we really need some crossing guards,” DiGuiseppe said. “If anybody’s out there, it’s a good pay. It’s $60 a day for a couple hours work.”

With the new school year underway, crossing guards are already stationed at crossings throughout the borough during student arrival and dismissal times.

Chief of Police Joe Moors warned drivers to follow the laws and be aware that crossing guards are active on standard routes from 6:45 a.m. to 8:05 a.m. and from 1:45 p.m. to 3:10 p.m.

“Please slow down, pay attention to the school signs,” Moors said. “The kids will be moving about to and from school. If we can just use precautions and just realize that crossing guards are out there to keep our kids safe, please just slow down a little bit.”

The borough is also seeking substitute crossing guards to cover locations when needed.
