Drinking Occurred Before Crash That Killed Langhorne Woman, Troopers Say

A high-speed crash on I-95 claimed the life of a Langhorne woman and left three others severely injured in late June, according to details released this week by the Pennsylvania State Police.

Mariia Riasko, 22, was riding in the rear passenger seat of a 2018 BMW 440 Series on June 20 when the vehicle crashed near the Woodhaven Road interchange in Bensalem Township, state police said.

She was pronounced dead at 11:08 p.m. at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in Philadelphia, according to investigators.

State police said the crash happened at 10:33 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-95.

A 22-year-old Lyndhurst, New Jersey, man was driving the BMW at a high rate of speed in the left lane. Facing slower traffic ahead, the driver attempted to move into the center lane but lost control of the vehicle, state police said.

The car veered off the right side of the highway into a grassy area separating southbound I-95 from the Woodhaven Road entrance ramp. It then traveled up an embankment and airborne, landing directly on the Woodhaven Road ramp roadway, state police said.

Going off the right shoulder, the vehicle struck a guide rail and traveled along it for several feet before launching airborne a second time and striking a tree branch. The BMW then hit the guide rail again before coming to a final stop off the right shoulder of I-95 south, facing east, according to state police.

Troopers determined through an investigation that all four people in the vehicle had consumed alcohol prior to the crash.

All four people suffered severe injuries and were transported by Bensalem Township EMS to hospitals before Riasko was pronounced dead.

The 22-year-old driver was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, as was one of the vehicle’s passengers, a 24-year-old from Trenton. A third passenger, a 24-year-old resident of Bensalem Township, was transported to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, state police said.

No charges have been filed against the driver, but state police noted there is a DUI-related investigation.
