PennDOT said the work will focus on a stretch of Route 1 in both directions in the area of the I-295 interchange.

Starting Monday, May 11, and continuing through Friday, May 15, drivers should expect lane closures nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, according to PennDOT.

The work is part of a $56.1 million project in regional infrastructure, including high-priority repairs on interstate bridges to maintain safety and mobility along the corridor, PennDOT said.

PennDOT officials advised drivers to allow for extra travel time because backups and delays are expected.

The overnight work is subject to weather conditions.

As part of the regional PennDOT work, the contract covers an overhaul of bridge components.

Crews are tasked with repairing deteriorated bridge decks, superstructure elements, and substructures.

PennDOT said repairs include fixing fabricated structural steel, weld cracks, and concrete beams; replacing expansion joints and bridge railings; reconstructing bearing pedestals and cleaning bridge seats; and removing debris from beneath the structures.

The project also includes cleaning and repainting overhead steel sign structures and upgrading existing roadway lighting to LED luminaires.

The project is being financed with 100% federal funds.
