
A pair of afternoon crashes in a Route 1 work zone snarled traffic and left one person trapped in a tractor-trailer.

The crashes happened around 1 p.m. between the Pine Street (Route 413) and West Highland Avenue overpasses.
Both northbound and southbound lanes experienced delays as a result, according to PennDOT spokesperson Helen Reinbrecht.
In one of the collisions, a vehicle struck a mobile detour board in the southbound lanes. Another crash involved a tractor-trailer, where a person became pinned inside the vehicle.

Firefighters from several local companies responded to the scene and freed the person, according to the Penndel Fire Company.
Initial reports indicated that no serious injuries in the crashes.

Reinbrecht confirmed that the crashes were cleared and the highway was fully reopened by 2:35 p.m.
The Middletown Township Police Department is investigating the cause of the incidents.
According to PennDOT, there are more than 1,400 crashes in work zones in the state each year.
