SEPTA will discontinue sales of its mobile “Key Tix” feature starting next month, the transit agency announced Wednesday.

New sales will cease on Monday, March 2, but any tickets purchased before the deadline will remain valid for 180 days from the date of purchase, according to SEPTA.
Key Tix launched in December 2022 and was designed as a digital solution for occasional riders.
The feature let riders download a QR code to be scanned at fareboxes and turnstiles across all bus and Metro services.

SEPTA officials said the program has been surpassed by the introduction of contactless payments, which became available across all SEPTA modes in April 2025.
According to SEPTA, the authority is now seeing nearly two million contactless trips per month, while mobile ticket usage has plummeted to just 10,000 monthly trips.

“With contactless payments, customers can simply tap any credit or debit card in physical form or through mobile wallets using Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay,” SEPTA officials said in a statement.
SEPTA said riders can directly tap a debit or credit card or smartphones at all entry points, use a SEPTA Key Card, purchase Quick Trip tickets at station kiosks, or pay with cash.
