Brian Salt, 37, appeared before Bucks County Court of Common Pleas Senior Judge Jeffrey Finley to receive his sentence of three years of supervision.
Under the terms of the sentence, Salt must comply with a plan established by Bucks County Children and Youth Services to have contact with his daughter, who is now 1 year old.
Salt, who now lives in Washington Crossing, pleaded guilty in September to charges of endangering the welfare of a child and simple assault. As part of the plea agreement, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office did not pursue a charge of aggravated assault.

The investigation began on March 12, 2025, when Falls Township police were called to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Medical staff reported a 3-month-old girl from the township had suffered a skull fracture.
According to court documents, an attending physician determined the injury was caused by “substantial force.” The infant also had bruising on her lower right leg and blood in her eye.

Investigators said they learned the child’s mother had left for work on March 11, leaving the baby in Salt’s care.
The parents initially told police the child was colicky and that Salt had taken the infant to his nearby in-laws after noticing an unexplained bump on her head.
Salt told police at the time that he discovered the injury after being unable to console the crying baby.

The parents took the girl to the hospital following a consultation with a pediatrician.
During a follow-up interview with police on March 20, Salt admitted he allowed the baby to fall to the ground, causing her to strike her head. He told investigators he “lost control” because the infant was crying uncontrollably.

Salt admitted to police, according to court records, that he knew he had injured the child but pretended to have just discovered the injury when he arrived at his in-laws’ home.
DelawareValleyNews.com reported that Finley described himself as “horrified” after reviewing the case records ahead of sentencing.

Salt, who served as the chief of the Falls Township Fire Company and worked as a career firefighter outside of the township, was suspended following his arrest last March. He spent five days in county jail before posting bail.
Both Salt and his wife addressed the court Friday, noting that the conviction has ended his career in the fire service, DelawareValleyNews.com reported.
