Man Killed By Wood Chipper Had Landscaping Experience

Authorities have identified a 68-year-old man who died after being pulled into a wood chipper last week.

John Iskra, who was raised in Levittown and graduated from Neshaminy High School, was identified as the victim by officials after the fatal accident on the unit block of Valley View Road in Lower Southampton Township.

Police, fire, and ambulance crews were dispatched to the scene at 4:41 p.m. last Monday for a reported industrial rescue.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Iskra stuck in the machinery, according to police.

Investigators said Iskra succumbed to injuries sustained in the incident.

Iskra had owned the wood chipper for a โ€œvery longโ€ time and was using it to help a neighbor when the accident happened, according to the Bucks County Courier Times.

โ€œOur thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time,โ€ said Chief of Police Ted Krimmel.

According to Iskra’s obituary, the 68-year-old man previously worked at the U.S. Steel mill in Falls Township and ran his own landscaping company.

The obituary said Iskra “brought a spark of joy and light to everyone he met.”

Donations, according to the family, can be made to the SPCA or Philabundance.

In addition to police and Bucks County Coroner’s Office, the Lower Southampton and Penndel fire companies, as well as the Tri-Hampton Rescue Squad, responded.
