A man is being charged with DUI and unsafe driving after crashing his brand new 2026 Mercedes GLS-Class into a tree while heavily intoxicated in October.

Troopers from the Trevose barracks reported that the 35-year-old Coopersburg man was involved in a single-vehicle crash on Oct. 28 on I-295 westbound near Woodbourne Road in Middletown Township, the Pennsylvania State Police reported in a press release issued this week.
State police were called to the scene at approximately 4:20 p.m.
Troopers said determined the luxury SUV had veered off the right side of the highway, struck a tree head-on in a grassy area, and then continued into a wooded embankment, where the vehicle rolled over multiple times before coming to a stop.

The Mercedes sustained extensive damage and had to be towed from the scene.
State police said the driver “displayed numerous signs of alcohol impairment” and was so intoxicated that troopers were unable to take him into custody at the scene.

Troopers determined that the crash was caused by the driver’s level of intoxication, deeming him “incapable of safe driving.”
The man avoided serious injury because he was wearing his seatbelt, state police said.
The Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad transported the man to St. Mary Medical Center for evaluation.
