Langhorne Borough Council is set to vote Wednesday on a proposed ordinance that would establish a residential rental registration program.

The rental registration program has been under consideration since earlier this year and officials said will improve tenant safety and aid emergency responders.

The ordinance, which was approved for advertisement last month, would require the registration of all residential rental units within the borough.

Similar programs are already in place in several Bucks County municipalities.

The goals of the proposed measure, according to a borough statement, are to boost life safety standards for units, help owners and property managers establish higher safety levels, and gather information for use by emergency responders.

Residents who wish to comment or ask questions about the measure will have a chance to address the council at the Wednesday evening meeting.

A copy of the ordinance is available for public review on the borough website and in-person at Borough Hall.

If approved, the registration will not take effect immediately, officials said.

The borough plans to share information on the registration procedures throughout the community in the new year, if the ordinance is approved.

A timeline for registration will be determined after that public notice period is complete.
