The Pennsbury Parent Academy session that scheduled for March 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Pennsbury High School East Auditorium will focus on providing parents with knowledge and tools to help protect their children from online threats. The presentation is being led by NOVA, the Network of Victim Assistance.
The session is titled “Sexing and Sextortion: The Danger of Online Exploitation.”
“As students now as young as age 5 in fifth grade are getting cell phones, making sure that they are aware of what’s out there and some of the perils that are out there,” said Superintendent Dr. Thomas Smith. “Although there’s a lot of benefits to it, some of the perils are out there.”

The workshop aims to help parents understand and mitigate risks associated with cyberbullying, sexting and internet predators – issues that have become increasingly relevant as more young students gain access to mobile devices and social media.
“This is a real life experience for our students what they’re experiencing today and trying to educate parents through a number of these items,” Smith explained.
