Coroner IDs Man Killed In Cargo Ship

The Bristol Borough man killed early Monday at the international port in Falls Township was identified Tuesday by the Bucks County Coroner’s Office.

Bryan Mena, 26, was killed in the industrial accident at the port operated by Kinder Morgan, according to Coroner Patti Campi.

An autopsy for Mena is set for Wednesday.

Firefighters, medics, police responded to the scene at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Monday. The U.S. Coast Guard and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) were also notified of the accident, authorities said.

Police reported that Mena was struck by a digging bucket while it was excavating sugar from the hull of a docked ship.

The specific ship involved in the accident has not been confirmed, but records indicated that the 590-foot-long Ricarda and the 620-foot-long Genco Picardy bulk carriers were docked at the time of the incident.

OSHA spokesperson Lenore Uddyback-Fortson confirmed that the agency has begun an investigation into the accident, with findings expected within the next six months.

Kinder Morgan released a statement on Monday expressing condolences.

“Our thoughts are with the employee’s family and our employees following this event. The incident is under investigation. There are no ongoing impacts to operations,” a Monday statement from Kinder Morgan said.
