Early on the morning of April 14, 2023, a devastating electrical fire ripped through Alyssa and Rob Kapusta’s home on Silverbell Road in Middletown Township’s Levittown. The family—along with their dog, Asher, who woke them during the blaze—managed to escape the flames with their lives, but little else.

“It was a rollercoaster,” Alyssa Kapusta said on Wednesday.

The destruction left the Kapustas, including their two daughters, grappling with the loss of their home, but their challenges didn’t end there.

As they tried to rebuild their lives, they hired a contractor and public adjuster to help them reconstruct their home.

Instead, the contractor and adjuster disappeared after pocketing approximately $200,000 of the family’s insurance money.

“The biggest mistake we made was not going with Paul Davis Restoration from the start,” said Rob Kapusta.

Led by owner Mike Lees, the team at Paul Davis worked closely with the family to design a new home tailored to their needs and budget.

“Everything with Paul Davis Restoration went very smoothly, and they made us feel very comfortable,” said Alyssa, recalling the last contractor who ran with their money did give her that feeling.

Construction began in early summer, and on Wednesday afternoon, the family was handed the keys to a brand-new, six-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath home.

The Kapustas plan to move in over the coming weeks.

Alyssa noted that the move in will be just in time to celebrate Christmas in the new home.

“It gives me that feeling that makes me want to cry,” said Lees. “I took this job because it’s the right thing to do for the community and the family.”

The Kapustas were also treated to a freshly prepared Thanksgiving dinner and a bottle of champagne by Lees and his crew to mark the occasion.
