
A longtime vacant building at a busy intersection in Middletown Township is slated to be used as part of an existing car dealership.

Piazza Family Limited Partnership, which owns the neighboring car dealerships, has plans to convert the empty 20,000-square-foot building at the corner of East Lincoln Highway and Woodbourne Road.
Plans submitted to government agencies note that the property owner wants to build a 1,335-square-foot addition to the building.
According to Middletown Township officials, Piazza plans to use the building for the Volkswagen dealership.

“All existing buildings are to remain while a small area of existing impervious cover will be removed,” the property owner wrote in a filing.
The Piazza dealership at the site includes five buildings on 12.6 acres.

The dealership already has sales, service, and repair operations at the site.
The preliminary plans for the site show the addition being on the side of the building away from the intersection.
The plans also show upgrades to the parking around the building.

The property is zoned light manufacturing and commercial, according to public records.
The project still needs go through the land development process and receive approval from the Middletown Township Board of Supervisors.

The building has been owned by the dealership for years and most recently served as a Halloween costume shop more than a decade ago.
In recent years, boards were placed to cover some broken windows and paint has faded on the highly-visible building.
