The incident began around 4:50 p.m. when Falls Township police Cpl. Ryan Murphy was dispatched to the intersection of West Trenton Avenue and Big Oak Road following a third-party report of a hit-and-run crash, police said.

As he pulled up, Murphy spotted a red Dodge Challenger, which was not involved in the crash he was investigating, stopped at a green light. The vehicle then moved through the intersection, driving into oncoming traffic, and nearly colliding head-on with another vehicle, police said.

According to police, the driver of the Challenger was seen yelling at the vehicles he nearly struck.

Attempts to stop the Challenger were unsuccessful as the driver began to overtake other vehicles by veering into oncoming lanes at high speeds along West Trenton Avenue, police said.

The Challenger continued onto Route 13 South at a high rate of speed, police said.

The chase went onto North Oxford Valley Road, and the Challenger attempted to bypass traffic on the shoulder, police said.

As the Challenger fled, it struck another vehicle whose driver was trying to clear the roadway, police said.

The driver of the struck vehicle reported no injuries, police said.

Due to safety concerns, officers terminated the pursuit when the Challenger entered Route 1 southbound, police said.

A LevittownNow.com reader reported that a New Jersey State Police helicopter was following the chase from above, police said.
