Pennsylvania State Police announced that drivers on I-295 and I-95 should anticipate increased enforcement next week as troopers will participate in Operation Yellow Jacket.

According to state police, the operation aims to visibly increase enforcement of the state’s “Move Over Law.”
The increased enforcement will run from Sunday, July 21, through Saturday, July 27.
Operation Yellow Jacket focuses on ensuring that drivers give space to emergency response areas where police, emergency vehicles, or road crews are present.

Under Pennsylvania’s Move Over Law, motorists are required to shift into a lane not adjacent to the emergency response if safe to do so. If unable to switch lanes, drivers must reduce their speed to at least 20 mph below the posted speed limit, state police said.
An “emergency response area” can be identified by the presence of flashing lights on police or emergency vehicles, flares, caution signs, or other traffic-control devices set up by responders. The law also applies to tow trucks assisting roadside and any disabled vehicles displaying hazard lights, caution signs, or road flares, state police.

According to the statue, violations of the Move Over Law can result in fines up to $500 for first-time offenders, with fines doubling for several traffic violations when emergency responders are present.
To bolster Troop M’s enforcement efforts, additional patrol units from Troop K and Troop T will be deployed to the I-295 and I-95 corridors in Lower Bucks County.
