Suspicious Person Calls Leads To Arrest, Injuries

Falls Township police arrested a man during and incident that led to injuries to officers.

The incident unfolded around 4:06 p.m. on Thursday when officers responded to a call on Canterbury Road in the Fairless Hills section of the township regarding a suspicious person.

The resident reported that a man approached her door but fled when confronted, according to the report from a dispatcher.

The resident informed the arriving officers that the man had emerged from behind her house and ran off through a neighbor’s backyard after she questioned him, police said.

With the initial description provided, additional officers canvassed the area both on foot and in vehicles. The man was not located, police said.

An officer spotted the man in the 300 block of Lincoln Highway and attempted to stop him, police said.

Ignoring commands to halt, the man fled and that led to a foot pursuit involving multiple officers, police said.

The suspect resisted arrest and there was a physical altercation, police said.

Officers eventually subdued the man in the middle of busy Lincoln Highway, which required several officers to take him into custody, police said.

Two officers sustained injuries during the struggle, police said.

The man was identified as Anthony Francis Dibattista Jr., 42, of Roebling, New Jersey. He was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment, evading arrest or detention on foot, and resisting arrest. Dibattista was preliminarily arraigned before District Judge Joseph Falcone and was being held on 10 percent of $100,000 bail.
