Greenwood Racing Inc., the parent company of Parx Casino, has put on hold its plans to build a new hotel, but it has instead purchased a nearby 167-room hotel.

The company plans to renovate The Inn at Fox Chase in Bensalem Township over the next six to 12 months, officials announced Monday.

The purchase price was not disclosed. Bucks County property records show that the last transaction for the hotel was in June 2023 and IHM Bensalem acquired it for $13.75 million.

The hotel is along Street Road and in front of the casino.

Greenwood Racing will continue to operate the hotel during the renovations and will debut under a new brand once completed.

The upgrades will include a revamp of guest rooms and public areas. It will also include the addition of 16 luxury suites on the top floor, according to Greenwood Racing officials.

“For several years, we have been exploring adding a hotel to the Parx complex as we continue to broaden the appeal and geographic reach of the Parx Casino brand. We welcome the Inn at Fox Chase employees to the Parx family and look forward to creating a first-class leisure experience for our guests over the coming months,” said Eric Hausler, CEO of Greenwood Racing Inc.

Reservations and group bookings will be honored, and current employees of The Inn will be offered positions with the new ownership.

Last year, Parx Casino received approval to construct a 300-room, 158-foot-tall hotel complete with two restaurants and space for weddings, banquets, and conventions. The facility was expected to be completed in 2025.

“The previously announced project to build a hotel is postponed until their is clarity on the competitive market conditions. There is ongoing litigation and potential legislative action regarding so called skill games. Until there is clarity with that, we have decided not to make any very large investments in the property.” said Marc Oppenheimer, chief marketing officer for Greenwood Racing Inc.

Parx Casino, which opened in December 2006 as Philadelphia Park Casino before rebranding in 2009, has grown its facilities over the years. Recent additions include sports betting and the Xcite Center to attract musical acts and comedy shows.
